Why country matters more than role
A customer support specialist in Lisbon and one in Stockholm do similar work, but their gross salaries can look very different — because cost of living, local wages, and tax differ enormously across Europe. The right way to compare offers is by looking at what’s left in your pocket after rent and tax, not the headline number.
Typical ranges by region
As a rough guide for entry-to-mid level multilingual support roles:
- •Greece: competitive gross salaries paid across 14 monthly instalments, often with strong relocation packages
- •Portugal: moderate salaries balanced by one of Western Europe’s lowest costs of living
- •Spain: varies by city — Barcelona and Madrid pay more but cost more
- •Sweden: the highest gross salaries on this list, matched by higher living costs and tax
The hidden value: relocation packages
For roles abroad, the relocation package can be worth thousands of euros and is easy to overlook. Flights, two or more weeks of paid accommodation, airport pickup, and help with local paperwork all have real monetary value — factor them in when comparing an offer abroad against staying put.
Performance bonuses and progression
Many support roles add a monthly performance bonus on top of the fixed salary, and clear progression paths into team lead, quality, or training positions. Ask about the realistic on-target earnings, not just the base.
